Music 101 for Homeschool Moms Workshop:

Homeschool mom, are you struggling with including music in your homeschool since you don't know much about music yourself? Do you wish you had learned how to read music or at least could tell the difference between a clarinet and an oboe? Is it frustrating that you can't answer the basic music questions your kids ask you related to their new piano piece or a song they hear on the radio?

Get the basics of music so you’ll feel more confident helping your kids learn this subject this year!

Each day’s class is around 40-60 minutes long.

Included is a workbook that you can share with your kids to help them learn, too!


Day 1:

Learn the basics of reading music. You’ll get a jump-start on music note names, rhythms, and time signatures, as well as other music symbols and terms! Understand how music is put together and what a person needs to know in order to read music at first sight.

Day 2:

Today we’ll get an overview of music history from the Middle Ages (450 A.D.) through Romantic era (1800s). Learn about the eras of music history as well as the most famous composers and musical pieces from each time period. We’ll listen to some of the music and also talk about the new musical advances that occurred in each era.

Day 3:

Get a basic knowledge of musical instruments, the five families of instruments, special instruments that are unique to particular countries and areas of the world, and which instruments are played for different genres or styles of music!

Day 4:

Today you'll learn about Modern Music History (1900-present day). Who are the most famous composers and musical pieces from this time period? We’ll listen to some of the music and also talk about the new musical advances that occurred during the 20th century.


The Music 101 for Homeschool Moms Workshop includes a printable workbook so homeschool moms can take notes and even share the information with their kids later on!

Gena Mayo is a homeschooling mom of 8 who has been teaching music in various forms for 30 years. She has a Bachelors degree in Music Education and a Masters degree in Vocal Pedagogy (teaching voice lessons). It has been her joy to teach elementary and junior high choir, high school voice classes, private voice lessons for teens through adults, early childhood music and movement classes (babies through preschool), elementary general music, and music appreciation for elementary through high school. But, her favorite music teaching experience has been as musical director for stage musicals such as Seussical, Shrek, Singing in the Rain, Newsies, and Beauty and the Beast. It is Gena's desire to help all homeschoolers easily include music in their homeschools!

Not necessarily, but that is who I am gearing the workshop for -- moms who want to include music in their homeschools but don't feel equipped with the basics. Other adults who might benefit from this workshop are teachers in any type of school who need this information to help teach their students! The workshop is not for ages 17 and under.
